We all want to make a difference - to be able to help friends in
need. And, we’d like to know that something that we have done has
been important to the lives of others. When you invest in the work
of the Comox Valley Hospice Society, you help people--many of whom
may be your friends, neighbours and loved ones, when they need it
Few of us are prepared to face a life threatening illness or the loss of a loved one. Hospice provides important support services that help others find comfort, meaning, dignity and hope when faced with the difficult journey of living with dying and coping with loss. What more precious gift can you give to another?
The Comox Valley Hospice Society relies on financial support from a variety of sources. We fundraise for 100% of our operating and capital needs. We work hard to raise funds to meet the ever increasing need to care for people in our community. It is because of our community's great generosity that we exist. Without this support, we could not offer this most important effort. One hundred percent of all funds raised are used to help our local community. The Comox Valley Hospice Society greatly appreciates your support of their programs and services.
We are currently seeking donations to fund the building of a ten bed residential hospice. If you would like to participate in the building of a legacy for our community you can find out more about our click here to buy your square foot. (select buy a square foot from the fund/designation drop down)
Here are some other ways that you can make a difference today:
Honour a loved one who has died and leaving a lasting gift by making a Memorial Donation. Area funeral homes have Comox Valley Hospice Society Donation Cards available, or you can phone in your donation to the Comox Valley Hospice Society at 250-339-5533.
Join the Monthly Giving Program online, or alternatively you can make monthly donations by phone. Our monthly donation of $5, $10, $15 or $20 (whatever amount fits your budget) is an easy way to support Hospice and make a tremendous difference. As one donor recently noted, “I am able to give a larger annual donation to Hospice, because only a small amount comes out of my monthly budget. Try it. You’ll see how easy it is to make a big difference!”
Whenever you want to honour a special occasion, say thank you, congratulations, or pay tribute to someone you care about, you can make a donation to Hospice in their name. Hospice will send a card to the family to let them know about your gift.
Help Hospice to plan for the future and leave a lasting legacy for your community. When you are planning your estate, consider supporting Hospice with a bequest in your will. Please discuss this option with the legal counsel of your choice.
Host an event for Hospice – we’d be delighted to provide you with materials and ideas. Contact Terri Odeneal, Executive Director at 250—339-5533 or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donate a gift of securities such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds. As of May 2006, gifted securities are no longer subject to capital gains tax. And, Hospice will give you a tax receipt for your gift. For more information on this donation opportunity, contact Terri Odeneal, Executive Director at 250-339-5533 or via e-mail at email@example.com. Please discuss this option with the financial planner or legal counsel of your choice.
Ask your family and friends to make the Comox Valley Hospice Society their charity of choice.
You can save 50% of your capital gains taxes if you donate publicly traded securities or capital properties to a registered charity. Normally, you must pay tax on 50% of the capital gain on any shares you sell or give away. But if you give the shares to a registered charity, only 25% of your capital gains will be taxable.
In essence, your capital gains tax is cut in half! When this capital
gains tax reduction is added to the value of your charitable donations
tax credit (calculated on the basis of the market value of the shares
on the day that you donate them), the total of your tax benefits can
equal as much as 54.6 cents for every dollar worth of stock that you
