This year’s annual non-denominational Blue Christmas & Celebrate a Life service will be an in person event at 2pm on December 11th. Feeling blue over the holidays can take on many hues including grief, illness, financial hardship, and strained family relationships. It’s our hope to offer a gentle time of comfort and empathy expressed through a variety of reflective readings, poetry, and music. Grieving the death of a loved one is never easy, and can be especially difficult during holidays. For some, the feeling of loss makes family connections during the holidays even more important. Others may feel the need to find an entirely different approach to holidays, or just feel numb and disengaged. Each person’s experience is unique, and all are normal grief responses. By merging Blue Christmas with Celebrate a Life, families can honour loved ones or acknowledge the absence in their lives during this time.
Proof of vaccination and masks will be required to attend, and doors will be open at 1:30. The service will be recorded to view at a later time for those who choose to participate from home, and the links will be available at comoxunitedchurch.com as well as comoxhospice.com and will be available throughout the holiday season and can be shared with family and friends.
Anyone who would like to honour the memory of a loved one can include their name(s) on decorative tags, which will be added to the Memory Tree. Please indicate whether or not you’d like their name to be read aloud during the service. If you are attending from home and would like to include the name of your loved one, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Blue Christmas & Celebrate a Life service will be led by Reverend Phillip Spencer with contributions from congregation members, CVHS volunteers, and other community members. For more information please contact the Comox Valley Hospice Society at 250.339.5533.
