Job Description – Marketing Assistant – Summer 2021

This is a part-time summer part-time position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The successful applicant will work closely with and report to our Communications and Program Support position.

Responsibilities include: reviewing materials and communications for previous events to help improve marketing; preparing communication and marketing materials for events; researching sponsors and prize donors to prepare sponsor’s stories for website and Facebook; drafting letters and emails to request sponsors and to thank donors; drafting press releases about events; developing a peer-to-peer fundraising kit and marketing plan; preparing and scheduling Facebook posts; helping draft automated letters in our donor management system for donor stewardship; covering front desk in the absence of regular staff; helping with general administration including document management; and assisting in preparation of the CVHS 2021 Annual Report and AGM.

COVID-19 considerations: We anticipate this position will be virtual. However, if the successful candidate lives in the Comox Valley, some work could be done in the office under strict COVID protocols including wearing masks.

Tentative Workplan may include the following:

Background: Week 1 – 2 – Getting to know CVHS and the Comox Valley specifically, reading through a checklist of materials for background.  Identifying the stakeholders and audience based on our census info, create some sample communication audience profiles based on their connection with CVHS. Donor, client types, general community/potential donor/specific demographics CVHS may not be reaching.

Digital Audience: Week 3-4 – Craft a variety of social media posts specific to each identified audience. Once content is approved, scheduling the posts and monitoring feedback. Summarize analytics from website and Facebook for the month.

Website Comparison: Create a comparison spreadsheet to review features and functions of non-profit websites and check the content/functionality to your checklist of best attributes. Compare graphics, possible focus group of volunteers for graphic impact using stockphotos.

Week 5-6 –Plan some paid ads for Facebook. Assist with fundraising projects as needed.

Digital Resources: Week 7-8 Explore various app functions and how the messaging of CVHS could be applied and create an information flow based on revising current web/FB/mailchimp content.

Week 9-11 – Collaborate to see how ideas gathered could be incorporated to a website template or digital app
