Palliative Caregiver Support

  • Respite Support

Our trained volunteers may offer brief and periodic respite support to CVHS clients who are primary caregivers of someone with a life-limiting illness. This respite service is intended to allow time for self-care and for caregivers to tend to their own needs and concerns. The setting for this care may be at home, in hospital, or facility. By having this time to see to their own needs, caregivers are able to offer better care.

  • Caregivers Support Circle

Caregivers Support Circle is a support group designed to meet the emotional needs of those who are the primary caregiver of someone with a life-limiting illness. When available, the drop-in format invites CVHS client participants to make new connections, learn about their strengths and available resources, as well as how to develop new skills to prevent caregiver burnout.

  • Emotional Support

Clients who provide primary care for a friend or family member with a life-limiting illness can access in-person visits or telephone support from CVHS counsellors and/or trained volunteers to address concerns of the significant emotional impact of their caregiving role, as well as the anticipated grief they will experience as the illness progresses.

  • Vigil Support

Depending on CVHS volunteer availability, bedside vigil support can be requested. This can bring family members peace of mind, knowing that their loved one has someone nearby at this tender time.
