Dr. Wei-Ching Chang – Director

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Wei-Ching Chang studied philosophy and statistical analysis both in Canada and in the United States. He worked primarily within Alberta Health doing statistical analysis and taught biostatistics in health research with a focus on cardiology. Dr. Chang is retired, and he and his partner came to live in the Comox Valley where his daughter resides.

Dr. Chang was a board member at the Southwestern Senior Centre in Edmonton and is currently a member of the Board Ethics Committee and also the Quality-of-Life Committee at the Glacier View Lodge. He also supports a Philosopher’s Café.

Dr. Chang believes strongly in demonstrating an ethical responsibility to contribute to society in a positive way. He is knowledgeable about strategic planning and governance and is excited about using his qualitative analysis techniques in support of the board work of CVHS.

When asked what interested him in CVHS, Dr. Chang replied:

“…. I wrote a book, Finding Meaning and Beauty in an Idiotic World. In the section on “Celebrating Life and Death,” I discuss the issues concerning human suffering and death. Having worked in health care and medical research for most of my life, I also know the critical importance of the work of the CVHS in providing palliative care support to those in need.

I believe that all community members should contribute to the community for the wellbeing of the community. I think this board is where I may be able to make my contributions, based on my

philosophy and ideals, educational background, and work and volunteer experience.”
