Dennis Evans – Director
Dennis Evans joined the board of the Comox Valley Hospice Society in September 2022. Dennis is a recently retired lawyer who spent most of his practicing years doing criminal defence for legal aid clients and youth in Ministry care. He also volunteers at the Community Justice Centre and is the Chair of the Kin Beach Park Board.
Dennis has spent most of his life in the Comox Valley, having moved here in 1969, left in 1980 and returned in 1998. He spends his spare time fishing, camping, and spending time with his wife and dogs.
Dennis wanted to volunteer for Hospice because he has been aware of the need for it in the Comox Valley since his father died in 2002 and his mother and he had to travel between here and Victoria during his father’s last weeks. While Dennis’ legal practice did not deal directly with issues that might arise for CVHS, he does bring a breadth of experience with a diverse variety of people and a significant amount of training in indigenous culture, and history, as well as training relating to issues relating to sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. Dennis has a comprehensive knowledge of what might be a legal issue and can provide guidance on how it needs to be approached.
